Understanding Overtime Pay
Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), most hourly employees are entitled to overtime pay at 1.5x their regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
Example Calculation
Regular: $20/hr x 40 hours = $800
Overtime: $30/hr (1.5x) x 10 hours = $300
Weekly Total: $1,100
Annual (52 weeks): $57,200
Some states have additional overtime requirements, such as daily overtime (California) or different thresholds. Always check your local labor laws.
